When you hear the name NOTO, how many of you does it bring to mind?
Noto is a peninsula in the northern part of Ishikawa Prefecture, stretching out toward the northeast. On New Year’s Day 2024, it was struck by a major earthquake and suffered devastating damage -many of you may remember hearing its name in the news.
Lionel Beccat, a Tokyo-based chef, has been visiting Noto for many years and is one of those deeply captivated by the beauty of its land and people. He has been quietly capturing its serene, vast, and profound landscapes through his photography.
From the idea of turning these images and sentiments into a book, the project NOTO no KOE was launched together with food planner and translator Kanako Teshigawara, and radio personality Chris Tomoko.
In addition to the three founders, this curated book brings together essays, photographs, and artwork by a total of twelve creators. Even for someone like myself, who has not yet visited Noto, it conveys so much of its richness and charm.
I sincerely hope that those who pick up this book will feel inspired to visit Noto one day🤍
